UN - United Nations Environmental Programme

We are a Virtual Internet Club concerned Conservation, Ecology, Environment and Global Warming Issues.

We promote clean-ups and long-term reductions in pollution; and programmes assisting life affirming and sustainable development. Especially for the younger generations, we have designed and implemented the “Snowy Owl Project “.

We [humankind] are poisoning our planet for ourselves and our children; and all other species of life. We are poisoning the air we breathe, the food and water we ingest, the very land we walk upon, and the oceans from which humanity hopes to produce food in future.

For instance, already the U.N. is advising humans all over the world not to eat shark of any kind or type, and no more than 4 ounces of Tuna per week if you are an adult; none if you are a child - Mercury! Do you remember that 25 years ago we all had a dream . . . of living in a paperless computer world . . . we now consume more paper, in every office, than we ever did?

The incidence of asthma and related illness in our children has gone up over 450% in the last 25 years? Between 1960 and 1998 the prevalence of chronic conditions among all children, resulting in disability, rose from 1.8% to 6.5%.

Where have our dream gone? Globally we are Green Circle Clubs International. We are developing local affiliates. Pollution knows no boundaries.

Our initiatives are both global and local in nature. But as a global organization we will use International English as the standard. That is the standard of the UN - United Nations, the EU - European Union and ISO - International Standards Organization . In sometimes cases American English will be used.

The official U.N Earth Day is the same as the Spring Equinox [usually, about March 20th], Official Earth Day Site . It is not April 22nd .

The time standard is the 8601 UTC - Coordinated Universal Time [formerly GMT] Standard from ISO - Date and Time Standards. Different than in America ISO 8601 specifies that dates should be in descending order, by length of time – i.e. YYYY-MM-DD

The metric system will be used. A brief summary can be found at The NIST Reference on Constants, Units and Uncertainty in accordance with The International System of Units (abbreviated SI from the French Le Système International d'unités). This is the modern form of the metric system. It is the world's most widely used system of units, both in everyday commerce and in science. Most all nations have accepted metric, especially in a global economy.

Some other useful environmental links can be found at Eco-Pros Environmental: Great Links [some links here are out-of-date].

We believe that everyone has a duty and an obligation to correct the imbalance caused by past errors of humankind.

Mission

Stop, and then reverse human caused world pollution; and your mission – if should you choose to accept at least a part of the responsibility. We realize that our objectives are much more specific, and tighter that those espoused by many politicians. Some do not even want to set any specific targets, at all.

Our target dates are as follows:

  • Stop growth trend in world pollution, by Earth Day 2030. It will take years to stop the growth in human caused pollution, but we hope to level off the rate of increase, by Earth Day 2030

  • Reverse current trends and achieve geometrically declining world pollution by Earth Day 2040. We want to see lower world human caused pollution by 2% per year - to as high as 10% per year.

In short, we must do more than eliminate paradox; we must create a paradigm shift. Are you interested in a challenge?

Methodology

1. Research, analyze and study, plan, organize, initiate and assist in pollution abatement.

2. We will never form, nor are we as a group ever part of any confrontational approach to influence policy within industry, government or public institutions. We believe that such a policy is over-rated and ineffectual. We will, however, assist in policy formulation, but only if asked.

3. We will draw directly upon the vast resources and goodwill of humankind’s most affected, to initiate change. This will be done through a world wide information campaign through grandparents, mothers and children and young people. Much of that is Internet related. We believe that all humans, even the past consumptive generations will change, with the enlightened self-interest of the very survival of our species.

We will involve ourselves in fact based informational campaigns.

Welcome Aboard!
